The Jamaican goverment wants to legalize casino gambling. Indeed this is a hot topic for us Jamaicans. You see we beleive we are a country built on religion and as the saying goes there is a church on every corner in Jamaica. That said there are many who believe casino gambling is the wrong way forward.
The majority of complaints come from the church of course. However many people blast the chruch for being a hypocrite since they regularly hold bingo nights and have long since tolerated lotto and other gaming industries. That may be true but the question still remains…..will casino gambling in Jamaica turn us into our fore fathers at Port Royal?
So what does this mean for you the vistor? Well if you like gambling then your in luck. Today most hotels have slot machines but we don’t allow human operated games like Black Jack and Roulette. There are a few good gaming houses in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Kingston. However when legalized it will be on a much grander scale. For one there is a minimum room requirement of 1,000 before any hotel can apply for a license. So far only the Fiesta Hoel at 2,000 rooms meets this requirement but more to come. This will increase the overall hotel room count and probably depress rates due to competition. So win win for you guys!!! What do you think…let me here your comments.
